City Loft

Singapore

About

The City Loft in Singapore is designed for the way people actually live in one of the world's most dynamic urban environments — efficiently, beautifully, and with a strong sense of personal identity expressed through considered furniture choices.

The project centres on custom furniture as the primary design tool. Rather than an architectural intervention — difficult in a Singapore loft with fixed proportions and a strong existing structure — the approach was to commission a series of custom pieces that transform the space through quality and specificity.

The custom sofa is the project's anchor: a generous, low-profile piece designed to the exact proportions of the living room, upholstered in a performance fabric that handles Singapore's climate without sacrificing the tactile quality the brief demanded. It is the kind of piece that could not be sourced from a showroom — only made.

The four post bed brings a sense of considered ceremony to the bedroom — an architectural gesture within the room that provides enclosure and a distinct material presence without requiring any structural change to the apartment.

The TV room and lounge are designed as distinct spaces within the open plan, each with its own furniture grouping and lighting mood, giving the household different atmospheres to inhabit across the hours of the day.

Throughout the project, Azula Designs' access to Indonesian craft workshops enabled the commission of pieces — the sofa, the bed frame, the custom bedroom furniture — that would have been prohibitively expensive from European or local Singaporean sources, at a quality level that matches or exceeds what those sources could have provided.
