Loft Apartment

Zurich, Switzerland

About

This Zurich loft apartment presented a classic European challenge: a generous open-plan footprin

t with soaring ceilings, but a brief that called for distinct zones — a productive work area, a warm family dining room, children's spaces, and a master bedroom that felt like a retreat from the city below.

The design solution centres on material layering. Custom wooden artwork panels define the dining zone from the living area without closing the space off, allowing natural light to move freely across both. The fireside dining room — a deliberate focal point — combines a solid-wood dining table with custom upholstered seating and a statement fireplace surround, creating a space that functions as beautifully for weekday dinners as it does for entertaining.

The master bedroom draws on warm neutrals and bespoke joinery to create a sense of enclosure within the open loft plan. A separate work area is positioned to benefit from the apartment's north-facing light, balancing productivity with the overall residential warmth of the project.

Custom wooden wall art — designed and sourced through Azula Designs' Indonesian partner workshops — appears throughout, grounding the project in natural material while adding a distinctly bespoke character that sets the space apart from typical Swiss interior design.

The children's playroom completes the brief: a considered, joyful space designed to grow with the family — flexible, colourful without being overwhelming, and connected to the warmth of the wider apartment.
