Long Bay Retreat
Turks and Caicos
About
Set on the edge of Long Bay Beach in Turks and Caicos, this private retreat called for an interior that matched the extraordinary setting — one of the Caribbean's most celebrated stretches of turquoise water — without competing with it.
The design philosophy is one of deliberate restraint. The palette takes its cues from the view: bleached linen whites, warm sand tones, and the deep blue-green of the ocean as a recurring accent. Every finish was chosen to recede rather than assert, keeping attention on the horizon.
The master bathroom is the project's centrepiece — a freestanding bathtub positioned for a direct sightline to the water, framed by natural stone surfaces and custom timber vanity joinery. The dedicated makeup corner adds a layer of practicality without disrupting the spa-like atmosphere.
Custom chairs — designed specifically for this project and handcrafted through Azula Designs' Balinese partner workshops — appear throughout the retreat. The brief called for pieces that could move between indoor and outdoor settings: the lounge, the terrace, and the bedrooms. The result is a cohesive furniture language that ties the project together and performs in the salt-air environment of the Caribbean.
Outdoor furniture for the terrace and pool area is specified in marine-grade materials, designed to weather the tropical climate while maintaining the visual elegance of the interior palette.
