Villa Milan

Villa Milan sits in the heart of Canggu — one of Bali's most design-literate neighbourhoods — and was approached as an exercise in what contemporary Balinese living can look like when you strip away the expected clichés.

The brief was for a villa that felt international in sensibility while remaining rooted in the Indonesian craft tradition. The result is a space that could hold its own in Milan or Copenhagen, while the materials and joinery tell a distinctly Balinese story.

The kitchen is the project's defining space. A bespoke island unit — finished in a warm stone-effect surface with custom timber bar seating — anchors the open-plan ground floor. The kitchen bar seating creates a natural social zone that connects the cooking area to the dining room without a hard division. A wine chiller is integrated discreetly beneath the counter, a nod to the sophisticated entertaining lifestyle of the Canggu expat community.

The living room is kept deliberately spare. A custom-designed low coffee table, a clean-lined sofa, and carefully chosen natural material accessories allow the architecture to breathe. The main entrance sets the tone from the first step inside: a composed material palette of warm timber, natural stone, and considered lighting that signals quality before a single room has been seen.
